Giving in Never Felt So Good

Mel stared out the opaque windows from the giant bed. Her body felt like a live wire knowing that Ben was only a few feet away. When they’d returned from dinner, everything felt awkward. She wondered how a walk that lasted only a couple minutes could cause a ravine the size of Kansas between her and Ben.

When they stood outside the door, Mel waited for Ben to kiss her. The full moon provided the perfect natural spotlight. If they had been in a movie, the music would have swelled and his lips would have crashed into hers. Unfortunately for Mel, it was reality, and all that happened was a sweet caress from the back of his hand and a light peck on the back of her hand. She stood there gob smacked when he walked over to one of the chairs and sat down. Words escaped her.

Those few seconds between them continued to play over and over in her head. She knew if she didn’t clear the air, she’d never sleep. With a huff, Mel threw off the covers and padded over to the door. She swung it open to see he was standing at the railing, staring off in the distance. When he heard the door swing open, he turned.

“Mel? Is every—” Ben began.

Mel held up her hand to stop him. “Don’t talk. I need to say something.” He leaned his back against the railing and crossed his arms over his chest then nodded for her to continue. “I don’t know what is going on here. First, you’re mister persistent. You’re always around doing and saying sweet things to get me to drop my guard. Just when I’m ready to drop my guard and finally take that plunge with you, you want to be mister restraint. I have no idea what is going on, but it’s fucking with my head. All I wanted from you was a toe-curling, mind blowing, ruin me for all other men kiss. I don’t know what happened, and it pissed me off. Damn you, Ben.” The last part was barely audible.

Ben continued to stare quietly.

She threw her hands up. “You aren’t going to say anything? Fine. I guess I’m glad we didn’t kiss now. It would have complicated things even more than they already are.”

Ben pushed off the railing and was in front of her in two steps. One hand buried in her hair and the other grasped her hip, pulling her to him. His lips captured hers, making her melt into him. Mel’s legs became weak. It was a good thing his arm was holding her up or she would have been in a puddle at his feet.

Ben pulled away and looked at her. “Does that clarify things?”

Mel didn’t give a fuck. She pulled his face back to her. His lips curled into a smile that she furiously kissed. When he nibbled on her bottom lip, a moan escaped. Ben took that moment to slide his tongue into her mouth.
